MCCWRT Meeting Tuesday, Mar. 14: 'How Did They Die? Murder or Natural?

The McHenry County (Illinois) Civil War Round Table (MCCWRT) will meet Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Woodstock Public Library in Woodstock, Illinois.  The meeting starts at 7 pm and will be in person or via Zoom.

This month's presentation will be given by Steve Alban.  "How Did They Die?  An Agatha Christie Whodunit.  Prominent Civil War  Persons Who Died.   Natural Causes or Murder?"

There will be a pre-meeting get-together at 3 Brothers Cafe on Ill. Route 47 at 5:30.  Snacks are meal, your choice.

Camp Nelson National Monument

CAMP NELSON NATIONAL  MONUMENT

Formerly Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park, is located about 20 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky.  The camp was established in 1863 as a depot for the Union Army and it became a recruiting and training ground or new soldiers from eastern Tennessee and for former slaves.

On October 26, 2018, President Trump proclaimed the site as Camp Nelson National Monument, the 418th unit of the National Park Service.

It was established as a supply depot for Union efforts in the area and in Tennessee.  It was named for Union General William "Bull" Nelson who had recently been murdered by Union General Jefferson C. Davis (not the Confederate president) over an insult.  (Another interesting story in itself.)

It was placed near the Hickman Bridge, the only bridge over the Kentucky River upriver from the state capital (Frankfort, Kentucky).

Only he northern side of the camp needed protection as the other three sides  have almost verticle 400-500 foot cliffs.

Mr. "Murder By Temporary Insanity" Dan Sickles-- Part 2

"Still, Sickles' lawyers felt they needed more and argued that he was so upset that 'his mind had become diseased.'  When the judge instructed the jury before deliberations, he validated the defense's novel argument by telling them they could consider the question of insanity at the moment the crime was committed.

"The jury acquitted Sickles in just 70 minutes."

What with Roseanne Barr's excuse for the tweet, let's go back to the Civil War and our favorite political general, Dan Sickles, who used it before the Civil War started.

"It may come as no surprise that the first person in the U.S. to successfully plead not guilty to murder because of temporary insanity was a U.S. congressman.

"In 1858, Dan Sickles, who would go on to play a notorious role for the North at Gettysburg, discovered his wife was having an affair with Philip Barton Key, the Washington, D.C., district attorney and son of Francis Scott Key.

"Purportedly in an unthinkable rage, Sickles went looking the next day for Key, found him in Lafayette Square across the street from the White House and killed him in broad daylight.  Public sentiment was strong for Sickles, seeing that the murder of a wife's lover as being justified, so his chances at acquittal looked good."

Yesterday, when we heard that a white person had killed all those people in the Texas church, the first thing I thought was "Oh No.  Please don't let the church be a black one."  That is so sad that I would think that.  And my next thought was, "Please don't let him, if this was a black church, been photographed with anything Confederate.

I mean, all this Confederate hate really got started with the black church in Charleston.

But then, I keep seeing all the shootings and murders in Chicago, where a whole lot more than 9 Blacks have been killed.  Evidently, the black community only gets really upset when it is a white person who does the shootings and killings.  It must not be a problem when it is Blacks killing and wounding other Blacks.

Here are the numbers:

November to Date:  9 killed, 37 wounded

Week in Progress (11-5 to 11-11:  3  Killed, 7 wounded

Year to date:  557 Killed, 2640 wounded

Every 2:19 someone gets wounded
Every 12:21 someone gets killed

The neighborhoods with the most murders and shootings are Black.

Victims are 78.3% Black and 17.6% Hispanic.

Meanwhile in Chicago, the Murders and Shootings Continue: 414 Blacks Killed So Far in 2017

As horrible as Las Vegas (and now we hear the Vegas murderer had gotten a room in Chicago in a hotel overlooking where the huge Lollapalooza concert took place, but didn't show up) was and the nine killed in Charleston, S.C., in June 2015, these numbers coming up in Chicago are really shocking.

Of the 506 killed, 414 were Black  In 446 homicides the police have no suspects and just 64 charged.  This means that the black community is not cooperating.

Meanwhile, in New Orleans where they took down three Confederate monuments, the death toll, mostly Blacks, stands at 121 so far in 2017.

And, we heard that the Las Vegas murderer (I won't use his name and wish the media wouldn't either) had booked the rooms in the same hotel during a rap concert.

What's the Latest Murder Count in Chicago?

Killed and Wounded for This Week 7/30-8/5:  3 killed, 40 wounded

Killed and Wounded for 2017 so far:  384 killed, 1834 wounded.  Kind of looks like after-battle casualty reports.  What is this?  The Battle of Chicago?

The three most murderous 'Hoods are Austin, North Lawndale and Englewood.  All of these are black neighborhoods.

Most of the murdered and wounded victims are Black.  Most of the shooters are also Black.

No Confederate statues, monuments or memorials are suspects according to the police.

And Yet, the NAACP Is All Hot and Bothered About Any and All Things Confederate.  Looks To Me Like Their People Killing and Shooting Each Other Should Be More of a Problem Than Confederate Flags and Statues.  --Old Secesh

Again, these numbers are nowhere near those posted by Chicago, but Chicago is a much larger city.

Interesting to note, most of these people murdered are Black.

At Least 8 Dead Out of 60 Shot Over Long Weekend in Chicago: Most Are Black, None Shot By Confederate Statues

Those were the headlines on page four.

"July 4 holiday violence similar to that of recent years."

"Dozens of people were struck by gunfire in Chicago, some of them fatally, during the traditionally violent Fourth of July weekend, mostly in parts of the South and West sides that have long been plagued by gang crime and gun violence.

"From Friday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon about 60 people were shot with at least eight killed.The shootings took place in communities long beset by violence such as Roseland, Greater Grand Crossing and Back of the Yards on the South Side and East Garfield Park, Austin and North Lawndale on the West Side."

Shootings persisted in two of the city's most violent police districts:  Englewood and Harrison.

These are black communities.  These are the same ones that are so hateful of anything Confederate.

However, not one Confederate Flag-waving white racist, Confederate statue or memorial is suspected of any of the shootings or murders.

JUNE TOTALS:   77 killed 323 wounded.

SO FAR IN 2017:   319 killed, 1509 wounded.

These are mostly Blacks killing other Blacks.

In Chicago, a person is shot every 2:26 hours and a person murdered every 12:55 hours.

The Deadliest 'hoods are Black.

And yet they get all hot and bothered about anything Confederate which offends them.  I'd think your people killing each other would be the bigger issue.

And, not  one Confederate flag, statue, monument or memorial is suspected in any of the shootings and murders.

The nine murders in Charleston a couple years ago really got them mad and resolved to eradicate anything connected with the Confederacy.  Evidently 319, mostly Black, murders so far this year doesn't mean as much since they weren't done by white racists.

What About Those Murders in (n)ew (o)rleans for 2017? Homicide Rate Greater Than Chicago in First Four Months

From WWL TV.  In the first four months of 2017, the homicide rate in (n)ew (o)rleans was higher than in Chicago.

So far to the end of April, there were 71 murders, most Black on Black.  Of course, Chicago's population is much higher an it was also pointed out that in Chicago 1 in 5 shootings result in death, whereas in (n)ew (o)rleans it is 1 in 3.  Better shots?

As of today, according to the (n)ew (o)leans Murder Map site today, there have been 97 murders so far in 2017.  In 2016, there were 175.

And, not ONE of those murders were committed by those Confederate statues.  Most were Blacks killing other Blacks.

And they get all hot and bothered about those statues.  Remember the big celebration when they took the three Confederate statues down?

Yesterday, WXRT, 93.1 FM, reported twenty shootings in Chicago since Friday, with three dead.

APRIL FINAL TOTALS:

46 killed
270 wounded

THIS WEEK April 30 to May 6:

1 killed
18 wounded

FOR THE YEAR:

183 killed
873 wounded

Of interest, police reports show that not one of these murders or shootings were committed by a Confederate Flag, statue or memorial.

2017 Murders in New Orleans (and (l)ouisville)

While I can still use New Orleans in the upper case.  When they take down the statues, their shame will be partly reflected with going to lower case (n)ew (o)rleans.

50 murdered so far in 2017.  A total of 175 murdered in 2016.

By the way, (l)ouisville had 18 murders recorded in the first two months of 2017.

Again, it would seem the mayor and councils of either city should have a bigger thing to solve than removing the Confederate statues.

Word to the wise, not one single Confederate Flag, memorial or statue is suspected of any murder in New Orleans or (l)ouisville.

Murder and Mayhem in Chicago

Remember, so much of this anti-Confederate thing started in earnest after the Charleston murders when the white racist killed the 9 blacks in that church.  Unfortunately, he was shown in previous pictures waving a Confederate flag.

That was nine lives and a horrible thing, for which I still hope execution takes place.

However, meanwhile, in Chicago, the mostly black on black shootings continue.

I went to the handy Hey Jackass, Murder and Mayhem site for these statistics:

March:  16  killed and 80 wounded

This week, so far (3-12 to 3-18):  5 killed 11 wounded

Year to Date:  114 killed and 505 wounded

On average, a person is shot every 2 hours 52 minutes.  A person is killed every 14 hours and 34 minutes.

And, Most of These Are Blacks Killing Other Blacks.  And the White Racist Killed Nine Blacks.  It Seems That the Black Groups Should be More Concerned With Their People Killing Each Other.  --Old Secesh

Charleston Murderer Gets Death Penalty

I was sure happy to see this yesterday.  What he did was horrible and now he should pay for it.

However, the sorry excuse now wants to appeal.

Let's hope his death is near.

This should be what happens to all who murder people for racial reasons.  Fortunately, South Carolina still has the death penalty.  I'd be really sorry if it had happened in a state that doesn't have the death penalty.

Chicago Murder and Shooting Stats for 2016

All the while the black folks are attacking all-things Confederate because of the slavery thing and the Charleston murderer, perhaps they should be more concerned with these stats.

So Far This Year:

Shot and Killed:  12

And, NONE of them were killed by a Confederate Flag or Memorial.  Most of these killed and wounded are blacks.  Most of the people doing the shootings are black.

And, the Charleston murderer killed 9.

Charleston Murderer Speaks

I found this piece of work's statement I saw yesterday hard to take.  He said, "I have not shed a tear for the innocent people I killed."

At least he admits they were innocent.

And, I wish they would stop showing him holding Confederate flags.  I sure didn't and never would have given him permission to hold one.  Unfortunately, no one can control who holds the flag.

Here's hoping that no tears will be shed when and if he is executed.  I know I will be celebrating his death.

Now That He's Been Found Guilty On With the Sentencing

That was good news this past week when the jury found the Charleston, S.C., murderer guilty.

Here's hoping that he is sentenced to death.  To do that in such a cold-blooded manner is unfathomable.  Plus, the huge black anti-Confederate attacks that have resulted makes payment necessary.

He did no favors for my heritage.

The Confederacy Under Attack-- Part 63: Blacks Should Address a Greater Problem

Unfortunately, reading these headlines over the last several months gives an idea of where all this is heading.  And, all the while, the blacks who seem to be the most offended by the Confederate Flag and are all into the Black Lives Matter thing, especially where it concerns racist whites killing blacks, don't seem to be that concerned about the black on black murders that take place daily across the United States and nowhere more evident than in Chicago.

Chicago set a record in September with 60 murders, most of whom are black.  And there is one day left.  Over one recent 18 hour period, six were murdered and an 11-month-old child wounded.  By the way, for the Black Lives Matter folk, two white police officers are credited with saving the child's life.

Now, I know that not all of the murders were of blacks, but a lot of them were.  Unfortunately, the local media doesn't keep tabs on the number of blacks who are killed, just the overall numbers.  But when I see pictures in the Tribune or TV reports, the people I see are most often black and the areas the murders occur are in black areas of the city.

I'd have to say the time has come to get priorities straight.  Blacks kill far more other blacks than the Confederate Flag or symbols do.
