GLORIA VICTIS: 1903: Baltimore circa 1903. "Confederate Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Mount Royal Avenue."
Sculptor Frederic Ruckstall's allegorical bronze "Spirit of the Confederacy," whose Latin inscription means "Glory to the Vanquished.
This photograph of the monument was taken some time around 1903, and shows two horse-drawn carriages in the scene, no cars.
