From the Jan. 28, 2016, Google Alerts for Confederate.
Most people don't hear about this ongoing effort to exclude the Confederacy from history, but it continues. It was bad enough before the murders in Charleston, but now are out of hand.
** Fight over Confederate monuments goes to state court. (new orleans) (Sure it will be a loss.) Having failed in federal court, defenders of the monuments take it to the state. Not going to win there either.
** Georgia lawmaker seeks constitutional protection for Stone Mountain carving. (Win) State Representative Tommy Benton is an "unapologetic supporter of Georgia's Confederate heritage. Sadly, as we shall see, he didn't shut up right there.
** Proposal to remove Confederate statues thru senate committee, but not without considerable debate. (Florida) (Not really a loss) The question revolves around the statue of Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith in the National Hall of Statuary in D.C.. Normally, I'd say no, but he really didn't have much to do with the state's history, so I am o,k, with his removal.
