This blog grew out of my "Down Da Road I Go Blog," which was originally to be about stuff I was interested in, music and what I was doing. There was so much history and Civil War entries, I spun two more off. Starting Jan. 1, 2012, I will be spinning a Naval blog off this one called "Running the Blockade."

Marking His Spot-- Part 2: What His Sign Said
These are the words on George Albee's sign:
"THE WISCONSIN COMPANY
1st REGIMENT of BERDANS
U.S. SHARPSHOOTERS
used many cartridges on this
spot, August 30, 1862-losing
1 man killed and 8 wounded.
Position marked by Geo. E. Albee, a private of the company."
An early history marker.
