Civil War Trust Hopes to Add to Bentonville Battlefield-- Part 1

From the August 8, 2016, Raleigh (NC) News & Observer.

The State of North Carolina controls about 1/3 of the 6,600 acres over which  this battle in the closing days of  the Civil War took place.  And, that land appears much as it did the 150+ years ago when Confederates under General Joseph Johnston and Union soldiers under General William T. Sherman clashed in a last-ditch effort to stop the Union march across North Carolina.

Except for pull-offs to read historical markers and a few more structures, this land looks the same.  Two-tghirds of the land is in private hands.

The Civil War Trust preservation group wants to buy 75 more acres and deed it over to the state.

The property is located at the corner of Devil's Racetrack and Harper House roads, next to the Ebeneezer Methodist Church.
