The Illinois Andersonville Monument-- Part 3: Granite from Wisconsin, Built in Illinois, Base from Georgia

The State of Illinois gave $12,000 for the monument and it was decided by the commission to put it in the southwest corner of the national cemetery and would be 26 feet 7 inches tall.

The Trigg Monument Company in Rockford, Illinois, served as the contractor.  Clark's Monument Works in Americus, Georgia provided the base.  The granite came from Wisconsin.

Sadly, there were many delays and 1911 passed by and now into 1912, when it was finally completed.  The dedication took place December 20, 1912.

A total of 889 Illinois soldiers died there and it took from 1908-1912 to get it built.
