Jewett Patent Legs for NC Amputees-- Part 2

One of the authors who will be out at Fort Fisher this Saturday for the 149th anniversary commemoration of the battle, will be Ansley Wegner, author of "Phantom Pain: North Carolina's Artificial Limb Program for Confederate Veterans."

I am not aware of any other book written about artificial limbs after the war. But there sure was a dmand for them what with the wounding power of the new weapons.

From the Rothschild Petersen Patent Model Museum.

This museum has a photo of a Benjamin Jewett artificial leg, Patent #29494, dated 1860. Benjamin Jewett was from Gilford, New Hampshire. The museum also has his patent application.
