MCCWRT Discussion Group Meets Tomorrow: Topic "April 1865: The Month That Saved the Union.

The discussion group of the McHenry Civil War Round Table will meet tomorrow, April 22, at Panera Bread at 6000 Northwest Highway (US-14) in Crystal Lake from 10 a.m. to noon.  This was definitely a busy month 152 years ago.

I intend to bring up the Confederate victory at Fort York in North Carolina, which I started writing about back on April 6.  One of these days I might just finish it.

Some other things happening in April 1865:

9th--  Surrender of Lee.

14th--  Lincoln assassinated

19th--  Lincoln's funeral; begins

26th--  Johnston surrenders to Sherman.  John Wilkes Booth killed.

27th--  SS Sultana disaster

29th--  The blockade of most Southern ports lifted.
